All of us,
collectors included,
overlook things
occasionally and
miss rare
opportunities which
we later regret. We
think this might be
one of those
occasions. On 28
January we featured
this lovely SS Type
gold stater as Coin
of the Week and
displayed it again
in our March
catalogue (Chris
Rudd List 98).
Several folk have
commented on this
unusual obverse
design and its great
rarity (only five
other specimens
recorded, including
one in the British
Museum). Yet nobody
has actually placed
a bid for it yet
(we're selling it on
behalf of the
finder). Why not, we
wonder? This gold
stater is a great
rarity and in great
condition. Indeed we
don't know when
you're likely to see
another - never mind
one that's as nice.
So we invite you to
look again and think
