This is one of the
sharpest and most
intriguing Commios
E-Type gold staters
that we’ve had the
pleasure of
handling. The ‘tail’
on the middle bar of
the E-symbol looks
more like a male
appendage than part
of the alphabet. And
what is that
breast-like blob to
the left of it? It
is reminiscent of
the remains of the
charioteer’s arm (if
that’s what it is)
above the horse on
the Tincomarus Alton
gold stater we sold
in July this year,
Chris Rudd List
94, no.20, and can
also be seen on the
Commios E-Type
stater preceding it,
Chris Rudd List
94, no.14. Elizabeth
wonders if it’s an
acorn. What do you
think? Chris Rudd's
January List.
