This superb gold stater of the
Veneti tribe of Brittany is
remarkable for nine reasons: (1)
There is a boar standing on the
head of Apollo. (2) There are
little severed human heads tied
to Apollo's head. (3) The horse
has a human head. (4) There is
another head below the horse.
(5) There is a big bird perched
on the knee of the horse. (6)
This specimen is one of the
finest known. (7) Only seven
other examples have been
recorded - all from Brittany.
(8) This one was found in the
Isle of Wight. (9) This is one
of the few to be offered for
public sale - and probably the
