This is the sort of gold stater
that only comes along once in a
while, the sort that makes
otherwise cautious collectors
say, "I don't care how deep I
sink into debt, but I've got to
get this stater into my
collection at all costs." It's a
Tasciovanos Tasci Ricon stater
and the cavalryman you see on it
is nothing short of magnificent.
The coin is so sharply struck -
from fresh dies - that you can
clearly see his helmet, his
elliptical shield and every link
in his chain-mail tunic.

Here's an artist's impression of
Tasciovanos kitted out as
commander of the Catuvellaunian
royal cavalry. This stupendous
stater, conservatively graded as
'Near EF', will be in Chris
Rudd's May catalogue. We're
telling you now, well ahead, so
that you can lay aside some
money to bid for it.
