Here's an unusual image: a cow
suckling her calf with the sun
overhead. Rainer
Kretz says: "When I wrote my article
'The Problem of Andoco...' (Spink
Numismatic Circular, October
2002) there was only a single
example of Anodo's second silver
series on record - this very coin!
Although in the meantime another
equally superb specimen has come to
light [also sold by Chris Rudd] this
type continues to be of the highest
rarity. It appears to have been
produced in much smaller numbers
than Andoco's other silver unit (VA
1868) and the reason for this lack
of popularity may well have been
that the scene depicted was
considered too peaceful and hence
perhaps detrimental to Andoco's
image". This beautiful coin will add
to the prestige and importance of
the most discerning collector's
cabinet. Ex Alan Cooper collection,
one of Britain's finest. Chris Rudd
