Coin of the week

This very rare Celto-Thracian silver tetradrachm, mid 3rd century BC, was issued by Scostocos whose name may be translated as 'pork buttock', referring perhaps to the champion's portion so keenly contested by Celtic warriors, as related in old Irish tales. Brilliant, mint-state condition, one of the finest known. Chris Rudd November List.                                                                                                       27.9.04
