We
had a wonderful Wonersh gold
stater in our July list. Now we
offer you another lovely
specimen. This one is different
from the one we sold in July,
because it doesn't have little
dots in between the arms of the
spiral or little rings around
the horse. You can also see
slightly more of the horse on
this stater and the horse itself
is different too; this one has a
bolder head which is composed of
a ringed-pellet, thus
emphasising the horse's eye
which was virtually invisible on
the July coin. There is also a
ringed-pellet in the middle of
the solar spiral, whereas the
July coin just had a pellet.
You'll notice that the
obverse is different too. On
this stater the four angles of
the cruciform motif are
delineated by plain lines (like
BMC 351-352) not by beaded
lines. All in all, this Wonersh
gold stater is one of the most
attractive we've seen and
displays a number of points of
different from Van Arsdell's
plate coin 1520-1.
