It's a wierd looking gold quarter
stater, this Beaded Trophy, but
worth studying closely. Firstly, it
has a noticeable nipple on the
obverse which, apart from the
Willett's Nipple quarter of the
Regini (further west along the south
coast), is most unusual for a
quarter stater of the Cantiaci of
Kent. Secondly, it has beaded lines
at the base of the 'trophy'. And
thirdly, there is a fearsome face
with bushy eyebrows concealed within
this intricate design, originally
derived from denarii of Julius
Caesar. Unlisted by Van Arsdell and
extremely rare. Chris Rudd May list.
