At a time when dodgy Celtic coins
keep popping up (like ugly boils) on
the net and - dare I say it? - in
quite well known auctions, it is
reassuring to come across a
delightful piece of Celtic gold
which you know, and know beyond all
doubt, is thoroughly authentic. Such
a piece is this delectable gold
stater of Dumnocoveros Tigirnos Seno
which was possibly found around 1829
(in the Lightcliffe hoard), which
made its first public appearance in
1882 when the Hemingway collection
was sold by Sothebys, and which was
featured by Derek Allen in 1963 in
The Coins of the Coritani.
That's what you call pedigree. Chris Rudd September list.
