What an attractive
coin this is! When
Addedomaros, king of
the Catuvellauni
'expert warriors',
commissioned the
engraving of the
dies for this gold
stater, he must have
said something like,
"I don't want
another of those
crossed-wreath coins
that we keep
churning out year
after year. Give me
something different,
something I haven't
seen before,
something nobody
has seen before."
The challenge old
Addy-Daddy gave his
die cutters produced
the results he must
have been seeking,
for what came forth
was an entirely
original design - a
wonderful whirling
solar starfish. This
superb gold stater
is made additionally
attractive by virtue
of its illustrious
pedigree; ex David
Prior collection and
ex the fabulously
famous Doubleday
collection which was
auctioned by
Glendining's on 20
November 1961,
almost half a
century ago. This
prestigious golden
oldie has the
pleasing toning that
comes with maturity.
A gorgeous piece of
Ancient British gold
by any standard.
