Twelve years ago we
had the pleasure of
introducing the
Sussex Cult Head to
Celtic
collectors. We could
then claim that this
gold quarter stater
was a 'new' type,
unknown to ancient
British devotees,
with only one other
specimen known,
published in
Treasure Hunting
1995. Today it gives
us almost as much
pleasure to offer
you the seventh
known example of
this hard-to-find
gold quarter.
Found just over ten
years ago near
Chichester, West
Sussex, this chunky
razor-sharp coin is
one of the rarest
gold quarter staters
in the ancient
British series.
Struck from fresh,
deeply cut dies,
this elusive coin
can confidently be
described as ‘mint
state’. It is a
little gem whose
market value is
greatly enhanced by
both its super
rarity and its
superlative
condition.
Ex David Prior
collection. Now you
have an opportunity
of acquiring it from
Chris Rudd's January
catalogue. The
collector who gets
it will be most
fortunate, because
we've no idea when
we'll see the next
one.
